During the week of March 13, 2010, Facebook officially supplanted Google as the Internet’s most poular destination. I’m not sure how I feel about this as I’m an avid Google user and an avid Facebooker. I’m also contemplating what this says about our culture…maybe now, 10 or so good years into it, we’re learning our way around the internet well enough that a search engine is not quite as useful (or fun) as Facebook…? Maybe it states that we’re more into ourselves than the rest of the world out there b/c we’re chatting with friends and checking status updates more often then seeking out new information. Maybe it means that Google shouldn’t have gone to the “clean” look last year. Maybe it means that despite all its efforts, Google still has more competition out there (like Yahoo or Bing) than Facebook (myspace…and….?). Maybe it just shows that there are more young people online than old people. hmmmm.
